It’s Jack here from 8BitCADE! We are getting closer and closer to the pre-order shipping date so I wanted to start posting updates to keep you informed! We are super excited to send out this next batch for you guys!
What To Expect?
New packaging? What!
Speaking to a lot of you guys I realised that many of you have brought a console for a family members birthday or for a friend as a nice gift – that’s super cool and I love that you guys are spreading kindness! In light of this, I decided that I wasn’t quite happy with the previous packaging and wanted to make their first experience into the world of DIY 8Bit gaming just that little bit better!
Aside from new packaging, some other minor tweaks have been made to the PCB + software just to make it a little more intuitive!
Where Are We At The Moment?
We had some setbacks along the way – as any startup would! As some of you may be aware, there is a huge chip shortage! This has definitely affected us – which is why it took us a little bit longer to source the parts as the prices have increased by about 30 to 40% – crazy right. It’s all to do with a mass shortage of silicone which had a knock-on effect pretty much everywhere else. As I didn’t want to increase the price of the XL but still be able to provide you with your favourite 8Bit fun in a DIY package, I decided to use that time to negotiate prices and find different ways to get the components needed to assemble your console! In the end, it was worth it!
A few other setbacks were simply due to getting shipments in – if one part is missing, none of the kits can be packaged! At the moment we are awaiting one more part set to arrive tomorrow. Once this part arrives we will be able to pack up the kits and start sending out the pre-orders in the next couple of business days!
When Can I Expect A Tracking Number?
We are happy to say that we have quite a few pre-orders to ship out! This is great as it means the community is growing each month! We will try our hardest to ship them all out as soon as we can but please appreciate we only have so many hands!
The bigger delay is that June 11th is on a Friday – meaning you may receive your tracking number early next week.
